Joe Faroe has learned that laws are made by politicians and politicians are all too human. He believes in the innocents, the ones getting ground up by governments that are too polarized or too corrupt to protect their own citizens.

Now Faroe is out of the business. Retired. He's through trying to save a world that doesn't want to be saved.

Lowell has come up with a winner in 'The Wrong Hostage'. I was so pleased to discover at the end of the book that it was the first in a trilogy. Now I can't wait to dig into 'Innocent as Sin' and then 'Blue Smoke & Murder'. The characters of Joe Faroe and Grace Silva are gutsy and brave. The son they made together shares these traits. It's a great plot with a few twists along the way. It's a great read!

Great book. There isn't a lag in the story, it just keeps going till the end. A very good page turner. I will be reading more of Elizabeth Lowell's books.

Summary: Heroine is a Pain
Rating: 2 source from www.booko.org

I know a lot of the reviews depict our heroine as this strong woman who pulled herself up to a judgeship. From what I read it was bought for her by her husband's money dealings. Why would this "strong wonderful woman" get attached and then stay with Ted? Doesn't seem the kind of man she would marry. Joe disgusts her but he is who she calls when Lane is held hostage. Then she argues with him about everything (things a federal judge should be aware of.) She is nasty to him most of the time and actually both of them fight and bicker the whole book and then suddenly at the end they are in love?? This really all takes place in a couple days time and I just don't think 2 people who despise each other will turn around that quickly. Actually there really is too much going on that is supposed to take place in 2 days. Lane, the son was really the most likable character. The storyline had possibilites but became a bit unbelieveable after awhile and I got so tired of the bickering between the 2 main characters that I lost interest in the whole thing. After Joe meets Lane, Grace asks him what he thought. Joe indicates he is impressed with how brave he was. Disgusted Grace says "I might have known that is what would impress you" Well good grief! HE was with the kid a few minutes and lots to cover and for a 15 year old to not fall apart with all he had being going through I thought was pretty impressive. That was just more of Grace's pettiness. I got to where I just liked her less and less. I finally skipped to the last couple chapters to see how it ended. I don't mind some sexual tension between the characters but when it goes on the whole book, that is just too much. It ruined the main focus of the plot which was to rescue Lane. Not a keeper!!

Summary: A 'dopey' story about dope...
Rating: 2 www.booko.org—freebook and password

This hasn't been my month for discovering authors I've not read before. First, a so-so effort by Brad Meltzer(see my previous review) and now this mediocre 'romantic crime drama' by Elizabeth Lowell. It appears she's written similar (and better) books. I found this one to be implausible(like some other critics), as well as repetitive(lots of 'threatening phone calls') and simply boring. The 'rekindled romance' of Grace and Joe starts off so badly, it's hard to believe there could ever have been any chemistry (or history) between the two. Both charcters come off too 'hard' and unsympathetic. The revelation of big 'family secret' (the identity of Lane's father) is pretty obvious early on, yet it's dragged out far too long, and we're supposed to be shocked when we're finally told what we probably figured out already.
If you like books that cram maybe 100 pages of action into a wordy, 400-page format, this one's for you. It won't last as long as the hostage ordeal did, but it may feel like it. my booko.org,my favourite website
